Hi Ya'll, I'm hoping someone her can help me get my new project on the road. I just picked up my first Monty, an 87' in really nice condition for the age. I got a pretty good deal ($650.00, cause it wasn't running). The PO said it was running fine till one day coming off the freeway it just died and he couldn't get it started again so he had it towed it home. So far, I've gone through and cleaned up a few bad splices and replaced the corroded battery cables. I then dropped in the battery from my 06' Dodge 6 cyl daily driver and kept my fingers crossed. All the lights, gages, radio, heater ect. came right up, but when I turned the key, the motor acted like it wanted to turn over but it couldn't because the battery was just about dead! Of course it wasn't. The fan made about two or three revolutions before the starter just started clicking. I put the battery back into the Dodge and it fired right up. Does the 4 cyl require more cranking amps than my 6 cyl Dodge? What else shoul I be looking for?
Any help would be great!

 

brushes in the starter. I started similar era with 280 cca, but ran 600 in my truck.

 

Thx Akzle, I think I'll pull the starter tonite and see if the local parts house has what I need. I will let you know.
