95 Montero 3.0 2nd time Burned valve #6
Hello Everyone
9 months ago I had a burned exhaust valve on my #6 cylinder and had the head re-manufactured.
10,000 miles latter I have the same problem..same valve. The mech says the compression is good in the cylinder which kind of makes me think that the rings arent the problem.(Wishful thinking) It has been consuming quite a bit of oil prior to loosing the valve completely. The baffles in the valve cover were all plugged and oil was going everywhere internally in the engine. ( up to the Air cleaner,Pcv,Etc....) The engine just wasnt breathing correctly.
Im wondering if I get the head fixed again will I continue to worry about burning that valve ?
Is there anything I can reccomend to have them check to see why that valve is burning? They may recommend having the engine rebuilt (which I cant afford) since they really cant check the rings for damage or leaking.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I will glad to answer questions to the best of my ability.

I sounds like the problem is with your head. If there is any slop in the valve sleve the you can get oil to leak into both the intake and exhuast ports. Check the intake and exhaust manifolds for signs of burned oil. I have seen poor work on heads before and this could be one sign. What are the driving conditions for this vehicle? Is this a 4x4. If so you may need to take it easy on the new head and allow it to breaking before pushing the engine.

When they pull the head I will reccommend they check for poor workmanship. I would assume it was done by a
shop that stands behind their work and it should be under warranty since theres only been 10000 miles on it.
The vehicle(4X4) is only used in the city and very little hwy use. No off road....yet
