4wd indicator burned bulb question
I have only one rear wheel lit on my 4wd indicator, the 4wd works and shifts no problem. If I switch to 4wd then I have the 2 front and still only one rear, same with 4HLc or 4Llc. I read here in the forum is probably a burned bulb, if this is the case, are these a pain to change and is it common to burn at 80K? I have a 02 Montero Limited (full size).
Thanks!

RE: 4wd indicator burned bulb question
Thanks for the quick reply.
Can't find a Haynes or Chilton repair manuals for an 02, what do you guys use?
Also, how do you change the bulbs behind the dash? I might just live with a burn bulb if it requires taking the dash apart...

RE: 4wd indicator burned bulb question
idk abt the 02, but it may be the same with my 98, but there were 3 screws that held the hosung, 2 on the siide to wither side of the gaugess, and on on the back (possibly with a cover you need to pop off with a screw driver), when you get that off the gauge setup will be held down my 3 screws, un screw them and pull it off... the bulbs will twsit right out
scratche that, totally different set up

RE: 4wd indicator burned bulb question
I have an '01 and it is fairly simple to replace the bulbs in the instrument cluster. First take out the 2 screws that are holding the plastic cover of the cluster, should be on top. Pull out that cover and you will see 4 screws holding the whole cluster, unscrew and gently pull the whole thing out. Take out the burnt bulb from the back, replace and that's it, you're done. No need to take anything else apart, I did it a few times and I'm not that handy.

RE: 4wd indicator burned bulb question
Take out a bulb and shine a small flashlight into the hole. Look at the front and see which symbol is lit up. Keep moving and testing till you get to the one you want.
Bulbs in plastic twist sockets are sold at any dealer, but many people have advisedjust trading out fora bulb that you never really use - like the ones for gears 2 and 3 in the shift selector display. They typically have zero hours on them regardless of age of your truck.
