I have a couple of problems with my 1998 Montero Sport. One problem is when I first start the motor and take off down the road the motor feels like it is going to die. The engine loses power and almost dies for a brief period of time and after the intial takeoff it never happens again. The second problem is with the A/C. Sometimes when I start the motor and turn the switch for the fan on the A/C it does nothing. After turning the switch to the off position and then on the motor begins to work. I have no idea what these problems stem from and I am looking for answers.

 

I have a 97 Montero and I had a problem with my A/C recently just like your experiencing and the dealership had to replace the switch for me and now it works great once again. So I am guessing that could be the problem on yours. Hope this helps.
