Default 99 Montero sport how to disconnect alarm

I have a high mileage Montero Sport limited and live in Belize...no good dealers here to go to. I have a factory alarm system and would like to disconnect it. It goes off intermittently and can be disabled/reset with the dash light push button and the key in the on position. I really would just like it gone. I've searched the forum and seen some advice for an 02, not sure if that holds true for 98...wires to cut, jumper to remove and such. I don't suppose there is an easy off switch?
Thanks

Can the wires then simply be cut? Or does something need retired so it will start?
