AC pump: What is this wires function?

AC pump: What is this wires function?
Hood open and staring at engine..Lookin at AC pump on left. Theres a wire that connects to the top of the pump . Its an easy pull off or push on type contact. I found it off,but the ac seems to work fine.
What is it for? It pops off often so I Spot welded with hot glue. Shoe goop incase hotglue fails. I was afraid to crimp the female end and get stuck or have to replace the entire end or wire. We'll see how it holds.
