Mitsubishi Montero & Montero Sport This sport utility vehicle offers more size than the other Mitsubishi SUVs, but manages to keep a sporty look and comfortable feel, unlike many larger SUVs.

Default Advice please kinda urgent

So my key is stuck in the ignition cylinder(2001 Mitsubishi montero limited) and I can’t rotate it all the way counter clockwise to remove it. I have power but when I rotate the key forward it is not starting.

three questions:

1 is there ANYTHING that would automatically lock the cylinder or did it just go bad? It’s occasionally given me problems

2 is the car not starting ( no crank dead) at all related to the cylinder? It seems I may have two problems at once. Dead starter? Bad battery? Other issue?

3. . if the ignition cylinder HAS prevented the car from starting, can I remove the cylinder, cut the ignition switch wires and hot wire it? My car is not in a good location and if I could get it home I could work on it with less

Is the car in park? Unless it is you may not be able to remove the key. Also it may not start unless it is in park

But if the lock has had problems previously, then its likely its jammed. Try wiggling the steering wheel and the key at the same time

Your car has probably an immobiliser fitted? Hot wiring it will not work
