2001 MonteroSport XLS 4x4
207K
av 1400 mi /mo since new in 2001
1400 mi per quart
20 mpg 95% mountain driving ;same as when new( miles divided by gallons)
more accurate than computers
Plugs never changed(might be frozen in the head by now) hope not
The only replacements:
Timing chain, waterpump and belts every 80 to 100K miles
Same ac compressor which runs March thru oct
Nothing broken down yet....but its bound to soon enough and probably all at once
Im very satisfied with the reliability Ive had with it. so far
Sure, its more prone to instability than corvetts and most other cars, but thats the nature of the type of vehicle it is. Higher center of gravity to be brief. High profile vehicles are not as stable as low center of gravity cars and when you drive them like some do their cars, rollover is ore likely to occur.
My wife bitches about the big wind gust we get when shes driving 60. I say then slow down . As soon as you do its funny how the vehicle becomes easier to handle. just watch and see how most people dont slow down when it rains, snows, icy, windy and all the accidents are blamed on the weather. Its not rocket science
Want stability? i got my wife the lower profile car below. Think she'll find something to complain about? Like everything, there are trade offs.

I have a 2000 Montero Sport 181cu 3.0 with 211,110 miles on it. The car has been a dream every since I had it at 165,000. I have taken care of it with routine maintenance. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but recently the shift solenoids went out. I still love this car and will get it back on the road asap!!
Replaced:
at 175,000 Miles
Neutral safety switch
Input Speed Sensor
At 200,000 miles
New tires!! Yippie!
At 205,000 miles
Timing belt
water pump
oil filter adapter
At 209,000 miles
Valve cover gaskets
sparks and wires
new starter(Because I fried old one)
At 211,110
Shift solenoids?
New Trans??
I Also change my oil every 3 to 5 thousand miles!
Thanks for the read!

120,000 miles (2001 Montero full size, not Sport). Had it since 78,000 miles purchased in 2008.
Just completed two road trips, first was 1,200 miles round trip and the second was 1,400 miles round trip. Both done within the same month. No problems, seats very comfortable, rides great, decent mileage (18 MPG). Love the truck!

hi all, first post -
My daily driver is a 1991 Montero RS with more than 322K miles.
I purchased it in 2000 with 140K miles. Since then, all service done by yours truly. I personally rebuilt the engine at 231K. The trans, rearend, suspension, body and paint (which still shines) are original.
Replaced more starters than I can remember. Upgraded the stereo and speakers.
Could this be the highest mileage Montero in Colorado that is still on the road? I think so...

I bought a 2002 Full Size Montero Limited in 2012 with 157,000 miles. Luckily there was a recall and I was right under the milage and years to still be covered with the brake master cylinder was making a "Bird Chirping" sound. Mitsubishi replaced it and its been running like a champ.
I had a "ex friend" do a timing belt/water pump service for me and he screwed a bunch of crap up which eventually blew the headgaskets and eventually the timing was set wrong.
Bro in laws good friend replaced the headgaskets and rebuilt the heads and set the timing right and it runs like a dream again.
Absolutely NO issues with the drivetrain and A/C still blows very cold. Made several road trips to Georgia and around Florida with it and has never let us down. I even went with some friends offroading with it a couple times and never had a problem taking on the offroad fun.
Currently has 167,000...Wife LOVES it!!!!
