Naeos......still nice looking. I tell you one thing, that old Niel Young song is totally right......"Rust never sleeps.....". One of my 94 Monteros looks beautiful on the outside, but up underneath the frame is toast around the rear axle and back......but I still drive her around cautiously.

As far as the rust is concerned, only the running boards had a rust issue, no concerning rust anywhere on the body that I've seen. Probably the only redeeming quality to living in the south these days.
211,000. 2002 Mitsubish montero sport xls. Love the damn thing. Changed out alternator, timing belt, belt tensioner, radiator, ac compressor at around 200,000. I think i can get 300,000 for sure. I have a Honda Civic too and i think the Honda might run better but i think the transmission on the Mitsubish is better. I drained and refilled around 200,000. Literally zero problems with.transmission. it leaks a little oil. It idles high after cold start then goes down. Doesnt climb mountains that good, but i recently drove from Vegas to Florida to Indiana with it 3 months ago and had literally zero issue. Zero. 211,000 miles. You can buy them used for around 1200-2000 all day. Id 100 percent buy another one.

What type of transmission fluid did you use? Gen 2 Montero Sports absolutely have to use OEM Diamond SP-III, I've seen a ton of sports wind up in the junk yard because they used the wrong/cheapo fluid. My apologies if you did use the correct fluid, just want to save you a potential headache later.

Min hit 200k a few weeks ago and I've owned her since 140ish. I had her in NC and currently in HI and will be moving to Colorado in Feb. I'm putting some $$ into the truck with 5 new tires, Old Man Emu Suspension, Transmission Fluid change, Just got an oil change, new filter, Transfer Case fluid, front upper and lower control arms, Front hub bearings, and a few minor other things. With the trips I will be doing once in Colorado I'm hoping to get easily another 2 strong years of adventures. I'll prob do front brake pads in spring or summer next year but that's about it. at 170k ish I did the Timing belt and water pump. AC still blows Ice cold and drives smooth now with shot struts and rickety control arms. Can't wait to see the difference after suspension is in.
I have a 2002 Montero Limited with 235K miles. It was rear ended a few years back and finally was able to replace the rear door and got it running again. Haven't run into any major issues since I started it back up.
2001 limited 186,000 miles. Bought it at 113,000. My all time favorite vehicle to drive. So comfortable on long road trips.

timing belt/tensioner/water pump at 180,000 miles
Sway bar/ball joints/shocks/struts/tie rods
brakes Twice
left front wheel bearings
it throws a few codes, makes a few noises, leaks a little fluid but it’s 20 years old. I’ve had vehicles that cost me less in repairs and gas but I’m really attached to it
