Chrysler ATF+4 is what Chrysler uses in their vehicles with a Mitsubishi powetrain. Many of their models uses the exact same 3.0L SOHC V6 powertrain (engine AND transaxle) as what is in the 00-05 Eclipse and 99-03 Galant. It may not be the exact same fluid as Mitsu SPIII in a different bottle, but it is definatly compatible. The color is definately darker out of the bottle with a slightly different smell- but that is irrelevant.

I have drained the oil pan and taken out the filter (MR 357710), the total drain was 4.75 quarts (not including the splahes in my face and hair [:'(]).
So 5 quarts remain in the tranny which I'd like to power flush out.
Now I don't know which of the two cooler lines is the return line to the tranny. The LH line (in the pic) reaches the transmission first whereas the RH line connects about 4 inches further back.
Next week I'll get the Chrysler+4 fluid and a new filter in Santiago.
How much ATF will I waste when flushing?

Thanks.

You use as much ATF as you need to until only clean fluid comes out of the cooler line. Make sure the area is well lit so you can see the quality of the ATF as it flows into your drain pan. You may use anywhere between 8-12 quarts.

Thank you for your reply, Joel.
You mean that in addition to replacing the 4.75 quarts (which I already drained) it would take another 8-12 quarts to flush out the remaining 5 quarts?
That requires me to buy 13 or 17 (!) quarts at 8 US$ each....
I hate automatic transmissions.

P.S.:
Oh, BTW which is the return line?

Well, the manual says differently.
My ATF was brownish and smelly and I had no records of earlier maintenance. So the change was important.
I replaced the filter (MR 357710) and power flushed the system.
BTW, the LEFT line (in the above picture) is the return line.
I used Chrysler ATF+4 #055013457AA (15 quarts).
The tranny shifts much smoother now.
Good luck.

you do NOT need to change any filter (most are not changable anyway), and the only acceptable fluid is mitsus ATF+3.

thats it.
drain and fill it every 30k, and you'll be fine.
