Blowing fuze #5
Good day, I hope somebody on here can give me some advice or guide me in the right direction. My daughter has a 2002 montero sport. Every time you turn on the headlights fuse number 5 on the fuse Box next of the battery blows. This turns off her dash lights as well as her rear driving lights. At 1st I thought it may be the dash light control on the dash itself but the fuse continues to blow whether or not this controller is plugged in. This is the only fuse that is blown and
all the fusible links are intact. Does anybody have any idea what direction I need to go in?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

After tracing things down with a Volt meter I finaly determined that the ground fault was in the tail light itself. The left tail light works perfectly on the right side but the right tail light would blow out either side I soon as he was plugged in with the headlights on. After much checking and finding continuity was perfect on all the wiring I finally decided I'd pull the bulbs out and then replace them one at a time until I found out which bulb was blowing the fuse. Strange enough the bulb that was blowing a fuse was 1 that was replaced 1 week ago when the brake lights went out. Brand spanking new with less than an hour of life on it and it was causing a ground fault to blow the number the number 5 fuse which was 10 app every time the headlights came on. I guess the old adage of check the little stuff 1st would have been correct. Had I checked the bulbs 1st it would a save me a whole lot of grief of tracking down a ground fault. The good news is I learned a great deal on the order to make the repairs.. Thank you for pointing me in the correct direction.
I'm glad you were able to trace down where the problem was. Having a bulb itself short to ground internally is a weird failure mode. Note to self - when investigating a possible short to ground issues, disconnevt the bulbs (or other load component) first to exclude them from the suspects 👍
