Engine Sputters
I have a 2002 Montero Sport with 124k miles. I just had the alternator replaced and the same day I picked it up from the shop i drove about a block and it felt like I was running out of gas. It was sputtering a bit and the idle was low. I drove it a few miles and it died. Took it right back to the mechanic. They looked at it and said they found nothing. It’s now been about 3 weeks and it’s still doing it. 1) low idle 2) when at a stop light or sign the idle gets low and feels like it running out of gas but doesn’t die. 3) it hops and sputters at acceleration but levels out, until I stop again. 4) when accelerating is when it happens the most
So I’ve been taking advice and put in SeaFoam, adjusted the throttle cable (which I found was loose) cleaned the throttle body
I don’t know what direction I should go from here. I do t ever want to blame the shop just because they were the last to touch it but it had never done it before and I need to fix it. It stresses me out when I’m at light and I’m afraid it’s going to die on me. (But never does) The Monty is my only source of transportation so any thoughts would be much appreciated
thanks!

It's possible that you need to recalibrate idle for your engine. Check this thread:

and do some more reading to see if this is something that applies to your vehicle. Some of the newer Monteros do have this issue, I just don't know if it applies to Sport models.
