Default flashing 4-wheel drive indicator light

I have a 2004 Montero Sport. When I shift into 4-wheel drive the indicator light on the dashboard starts flashing, but I don't know if I am in 4-wheel drive or not. I have driven for up to 15 minutes with it flashing. Sometimes I can get it to go solid by backing up for several feet. Dealer said it was normal and that the computer was trying to sort itself out. THAT didn't sound right??? Anyone have a clue what's wrong? Its still under warranty and would be nice to get it fixed before it expires. Thanks

If you'd scroll down a bit, you'd see several threads regarding the same complaint. Read em over and see which one suits your conditions. Good Luck!
