Default Great Movie. 20,000 mile trip.

"Long way Round". Motorcycle touring is my passion, and this movie is about 2 blokes that go around the world, from London to New York via Russia, Mongolia, fly to Alaska, and through the Northern part of the U.S. It is actually a Documentary, and Ewan McGregor is one of the guys on the tour, with another actor, Charley Boorman.

The point of this post, is that there is a 3rd generation Montero in it, used as a support vehicle, and they put it through some tough *** terrain.......it has a snorkel on it, and sounds like a diesel. Good movie, especially for motorcyclists, but for Off-roaders as well. Both of my passions.

I thought I was a rider, until I saw these guys plowing through 2 feet of mud on bikes. I think my next bike is a BMW GS 1200 like they had. There was a good bit of off-roading in the movie, and I want to find where they got the snorkel for the Monty, and what motor it had in it.

I actually won my copy in a BMW sweepstakes as a third round prize. I was skeptical to watch, as I don't like Ewan McGregor as an actor, but I didn't realize that this is live Documentary.

There are some big *** military trucks in this film, crossing rivers....not streams, rivers........those Russians/Mongolians/Kazakhstanians know how to get through some mud!!

I almost sh*t a brick when I saw a 3rd generation Monty in there, though it sounded like a diesel. Looked like it had all-season tires on it, and I believe it had to be pulled out of the muck once.

My copy was 7 episodes, and you should watch the bonus footage when you're done. I have all kinds of respect for these guys.

Finally got the video and saw the footage. Very cool. I was suprised to see the monty as well. Wished they would show more or release extra footage from the support vehicles. I wonder how those guys found petrol in those remote areas. You know 4wheeling like that your range is short! If you go to their web site (google long way round) they profile the Monty. The snorkel was made by Mitsu and the only real mods to the stock truck was the roof rack and springs / shocks. I wonder what they did with the Monty when they got to the end of Russia? Did they give it to the russian support crew? sell it for plane tickets? So many unanswered questions!
