HELP please
I am trying to get my wifes rotors cut on her 98 Montero Sport. The local shop only cuts rotors OFF the vehicle and I can't get past getting the callipers off. I tried everything in my abilitiy to figure it out, but I need some help ... quick.
can someone detail me on how to get the front rotors off the truck. I took the bearing cap off thinking I could slide the entire ***. off the axle and that didn't even work.

I looked at my shop manual for my 92 Montero. I'm assuming you have a 4X4. From the rotor out there is 1. rotor (held onto hub with 6 bolts) 2. hub 3. lock nut (needs special tool to turn off) 4. lock washer 5. speed sensor (only with ABS) 4. splined drive flange (held on with 4 small machine screws) 3. shim 2. snap ring (you'll need snap ring pliers) 1. dust cap. Hope this helps a little but not sure how close this is to your vehicle. You may have missed the snap ring especially if there is a lot of grease. I would suggest you loosen the bolts holding the rotor to the hub while the assembly is on the axle, that way you have something to hold the assembly from turning. You can torque it back that way as well. There are also special re-assembly instructions for wheel bearing pre-load (very important) and drive shaft end play, adjusted by different shims. Good luck. Get back to me if you need more help.
Got it brotha... thank you. It was the snapring and it was so covered that I didn't see it. Once I found that it was smooooooooooth sailing.
Sorry to say that after all that the brakes still pulsate... must be the rears. I believe that its a drum/rotor combo in the rear so my "using the emergency brake to elminate the rears being worped" test didn't work.

From past experience it doesn't pay to buy the $49 rotors from the discount parts stores unless you are going to sell the vehicle soon. They warp very easily. I had to buy a new rear rotor last year and gladly paid the $102 from NAPA for the composite metal. This is the first rotor I have had to replace and only because I let the pad wear too much and scored the rotor. Turning the factory rotors is OK but be sure you and the shop know the limits. I also paid extra for top quality pads which produce less heat and will help keep the rotor from warping.
