Default Montero noob - first post!

Greetings!
I've got a chance to pick up a 1990 Montero for $300. Body is straight, no rust, and the interior is decent. However, the truck overheated on the PO, and he parked it. It does still run, but is blowing steam out the exhaust.

3.0L, manual trans.

Now I'm a Suzuki man usually, but my son is wanting something a little bigger, so I was thinking about picking this up and going through it with him. It has about 210K on it, but the motor was supposed to have been replaced at 150k (owner says he has paperwork for this...). So my questions are:

1. If the motor is redone (either just head gasket/top or full job), how do the rest of the drive train hold up? It's my understanding that these trucks used the same tranny that's in the Fuzo's?

2. What type of mileage do these trucks normal get?

3. Anyone here ever do a rebuild on this engine? (...still searching the board)

Thanks for the input.
