Montero Sport Etacs Module melted
Anyone,
03' Montero Sport Etacs Module melted and filled car with smoke, lucky it
didn't catch fire. Of couse light's and horns going off and fornunately had window down because all doors were locked. I have replaced the module- question, has anybody had this happen before, should I have the car "analyised" , seems to work fine but I don't trust it now.
Help

I've never heard of anything like this happening to a Montero.
Are you the original owner? If not, what electrical work was done on the rig before you purchased it? I would run a complete electrical diagnostic before driving any where.
Glad to hear it didn't burn to the ground and you're o.k.

Several maintaniance items were done recently,
1) I replaced the alternator, but I didn't disconnect the battery before I started, which I understand now was a real big no no. Replaced the belts at this time also.
2) Had my local mechanic replace the timing belt.
then went on a 2000 mile trip. I'm not the original owner, I don't know what was done before I bought the car.
I can't find any mention on the net of an Etachs melting, failing yes. I am relieved that this isn't ordinary. I think my own carelessness is probably to blame. I'll look into that diagnostic.
