For anyone who cares, the diagram above is correct.

Also, I learned a 2001-2004 fuel pump assembly will fit an early 2000 MS. Everyone said it would not fit, but the pictures looked identical online so I ordered it and it was exact same part. Airtex made the pump #E8439H.

I am the happy 2nd owner of a Montero xls sport i am replacing the filler neck and your diagram helps me if i do the complete fuel system thanks any more reference here is appreciated
Im in nj . Am getting ready for inspection and am anticipating all the details

 

Does anyone know if this fuel tank is obsolete or not produced by any after market company a reply would be appreciated .
I did get the filler neck from Mitsubishi parts inc in Florida they were knowledgeable just need the last 8 digits of the vin .hopefully my post is a helpful contribution here .
My Montero xls was deceptively sold to me i will persevere through the repair its a nice vehicle . Thank you . Kprof

 

Not sure of your year, but here is a link for a new OEM tank for a 2002 Montero Sport XLS, 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport Parts - Fuel Tank - MN120735, for $868.74. Says it includes the sending unit. I assume it does not include the pump

This is the tank from a 1999 monti sport xls feb 99 build date
I did this job its pretty easy to remove . I replaced the rubber lines with new my issues were with the connection to the fuel filter i kept having a leak its pretty scary it sits it runs pressure tests no leak then the next morning after a warm up and drive it spews out the repair fittings . Any help with this one is appreciated.
