Mitsubishi Montero & Montero Sport This sport utility vehicle offers more size than the other Mitsubishi SUVs, but manages to keep a sporty look and comfortable feel, unlike many larger SUVs.

Default My first Mitsubishi and its a Montero (help)

So, i recently baught a used 2006 montero limited(automatic). I test drove it, and checked for any leaks and the car seemed very well maintained and drove great.
50+ miles after we had done the deal two lights came on, the traction control and one next to it with traction control and the word OFF under it. This had showed up while i was driving.
After the vehicle was turned off and turned back on it had disappeared, but it came back on after driving it for a few miles.
The third time it happened SERVICE ENGINE SOON light appeared as well. So i headed to autozone for them to read the codes and only the service enginne light was on and it asked for vacuum hose.

The only thing i realuzed that the vehicle would need is new tires and a alignment. But thats all i could notice.

Did make a good bad choice with this car?
How reliable is the Montero?
Is there any main issues with this model?
Do i have to worry about the lights?
Does anyone have experience the lights before?
Anything helps. Thanks to all that help me out.

Congrats on your new ride. Mitsubishi Monteros are excellent vehicles. I would choose Montero in any condition vs any Ford in the same condition. They are well built and run nearly forever. You can look at the other threads on this forum and you'll see that many Monteros last well past 200k miles.

Like any modern vehicle, you will have some issues with electronic systems. Most often this is related to a sensor malfunction. I'm not familiar with the '06 year model, so I can't tell you right away how to diagnose Traction Control light issue you are having. You can search for a FSM (factory service manual) for your model year and see what they recommend for diagnostics steps. I'd venture a guess that it is some sort of wheel speed sensor issue.

One of the most important things to remember when doing any work on Montero, is to NEVER just throw parts into it. Blindly swapping parts rarely works on these and gets very expensive very fast. When doing any diagnostics, be certain that a part or a sensor you are replacing needs to be replaced.

BTW, You did not say what your Check Engine code was. You did say a vacuum hose resolved it.. Just curious about it.
