Default problems with spare tire release

Today I got off work at 6am only to find that I had a flat. Well I couldnt get the lug nut that holds it securely to release it maybe because its plastic(?) and the thing used to do so is metal?!Then to add insult to it all I cant find the lug nut lock thingy? does anyone know any tricks to loosen the tire? Where I can find a key to get the flat tire off?

Thanks

Is it possible that you are missing the security socket that prevents someone from stealing the wheel from you? The socket for mine is in a little pouch with all the wheel changing stuff.
