Mitsubishi Montero & Montero Sport This sport utility vehicle offers more size than the other Mitsubishi SUVs, but manages to keep a sporty look and comfortable feel, unlike many larger SUVs.

XLS model...

My mother just picked one up and I'd like to know what you all recommend for:

Engine Oil
Transmission Fluid
Filter
Coolant

So I can stick to these brands in the future. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Engine oil: A good brand, but depends on what it had it in before.
Tranny oil: Mitsubishi fluid only, I know it is $$$ but worth it in the long run
Filters: STAY AWAY FROM FRAM (I had issues with them).
Oil: Wix, Mobil 1, K&N
Air: Wix, K&N

Coolant: Prestone

Since I don't have a Mitsu. dealer in my town,
I get my AFT from these guys:

http://www.streettunedmotorsports.co...diy_fluids.htm

The FSM recommends 5-30 or 10-30 oil depending on conditions.
I've spoken to many who run synthetics without problems, however I run mineral oil (Castrol).

Since this is a new purchase, I would suggest that you have all the fluids changes. Which includes the diffs and transfer case/gear box.

My rig is a full size '02 Monty, but I think the '01 Sport also calls for All Weather Green anti-freeze (your choice of brands). Check the FSM.

Good Luck
