thnking about buying a montero not sure on year it was dark but anyway the guy says it runs great when it runs. the rig is beautiful but it only starts when it wants to. i am pretty mech inclined but never owned a mits. i really want to get this rig but i would like some opinions on what to check before i buy someone else's trouble with my hard earned dollar. thanks guys and any help will be appreciated.
not sure on year but i would say by the roundness of the body late 80 to early 90
v6 injected
4wd 4d 5 speed
125000 miles
body very clean same with int

before i buy what should i look for as to why it has an attitude about starting?

most likely the starter. but if the engine specificaly won't start when the engine is hot then good chance the starter was replaced and the heat shield wan't put back on (cuz that shield can be a bitch). if when it won't start you hit the starter and suddenly it works then it just needs a new starter

You need to give us a little better description of your symptoms.

-Does the engine crank and not fire?
-Or does nothing happen when you turn the key? (ignition switch = common failure)
