Question smog

I have a 91 montero that failed smog. I just got the truck & found a lot of problems with it. I fixed the leaking exhaust, changed o2s. checked cat. Its emissions are more than 2x the max limit. When I fixed exhaust and changed the o2s the smell from tailpipe became acceptable for a little while (1 day) then back 2 way 2 rich. The car also seems 2 get a little sluggish after warming up.

Check the valve guide seals.
I also suggest changing all of the fluids and servicing the engine/intake...everything-very well.

Hello everybody, This is my first post, so if you know of a thread that directs to my situation, I would appreciate a link. thanks

I have a 97 mitsu, montero, took it in for a smog, and the computer was reset(?) from relplacing the battery, any way, he couldn't smog it and told me to drive around for a few days and come back. Well, its been about week and the readings are still not available for the emmisions test. Does anyone know how long this is supposed to take? I heard this is common problem with this year/model. thanks. I live in California.

Pull a plug wire off or coil connector if it's multicoils to force a code.

starrzdad, I had a car a few months ago that a few sensors would not "ready" If you can ask the guy that did your smog check what sensors were "not ready" and post them.

(orig. thread) Thanx. o2s toast. changing it in the morning. Not sure if it'll fix it.
