Transfer Case Service Plate?
2002 Sport LS 3.0 24V SOHC AWD 138K
Have a noise coming from transfer case. Noise comes and goes at certain RPMs in any drive mode.
Sounds like chain slack or bearing noise but not constant, only at certain RPMs, intensifies if stays at sweet spot of resonance too long. Sound isn't loud enough to hear while driving, but noticeable while parked.
. 1. There seems to be a Plate on the tcase by the exhaust on passenger side. Wondering what goes on behind that. Any adjustments?
2. Reading stuff on the freewheel clutch system wondering if this could cause concern, and if AWD even has these solenoids. Front switch not engaging properly?
3. Hoping for any hope in saving this Tcase, Alaska is tricky on parts.

If the noise occurs while vehicle is in Park, it is not coming from a bearing or the chain in the transfer case. Under those conditions there is no rotation of any TC components. It could be a rattle from a heatshield in that area or some similar part.
No sound in park. Drive modes include awd 4h and 4l in all gears besides park, even neutral. No sound most of the time only at very first initial pulse of accelerator pedal and at certain rpm range, about 1200 then about 2400. Uiets up anything after that. Pretty sure chain is rattling. Have been a mechanic for most my life. These vehicles aren't too popular down in the south but up here they are pretty popular so haven't seen them much until recently.
Got the vehicle cheap due to neglecting of timing belt. Rebuilt top end and now engine runs like a dream. Now other signs of neglect are rearing their ugly head...
. Sound is clearly coming from front end of Tcase by the tailed of transmission that connects to front driveshaft. Looking for help on service options for these things as in changing chain or chains...

I guess I got confused by your statwment
If vehicle was neglected, it's possible the TC chain is stretched or worn out. That's why it makes noise. The question is - would it be worth trying to replace your chain (plus who knows what else), or try to find a used TC from mainland, ship it to Alaska and just do a swap?
