Default Valve Cover gasket replace

Hi I am new here and not sure I am posting in the correct place. I am looking for any insight on changing valve cover gaskets on my 01 Montero Sport XS 3.5
I have the plenum/upper intake removed and am now down to the valve covers. It appears they might go under the timing belt covers? Do I have to remove those first or can they be removed without taking those off? I will be doing a timing belt too, but I want to address my intermittent Misfire on #1 first.

Thanks for any guidance. I'd like to get this done and put back together before I forget where everything goes
