Talking VIN location help

I am registering an out of state vehicle (in California) which requires a VIN varification. Can anyone help me with VIN locations on the frame or body, not on removable plates?

Thanks,
db

You might check the driver side door post and see if it's located there.

Thanks, that one is there. I'm actually looking for a frame or body stamping.

CA must be getting more uptight since my last vehicle verification. I just stopped a CHP officer in a parking lot and he signed the form after simply looking at the dash top.

You don't say if you have a Sport of Full Size Montero but here's the info directly from the Factory Manual for my Full Size:

The full VIN is only found in three places: Dash top riveted plate, Driver's Door Jam Decal and passenger side firewall - also a riveted plate. You can also easily spot permanent VIN stickers on all major parts: doors, fenders, hood, etc.

The best bet for a stamped number is the chassis number which on my full size is stamped into the side of the frame rail just to the rear of the right rear tire. It's not stamped too deeply so you'll need some cleaner and/or an abrasive pad to see it clearly. The chassis number is the same as digits 10-17 of your VIN. Hopefully that will satisfy the DMV.
