04 Outlander Heat Blower out but thats not all.....
So everything was fine before the "inspection" and, as you put it, "a few hours later I went out and the fan selector would not turn the blower on .....the defrost button for the rear defroster wont light up, the a/c light wont come one when pressed. Same with the recirc button".
I am not a believer in coincidence, especially when it comes to mehcanical devices and even more so when it comes to vehicles.
Did you take the vehicle to a Mit stealership? If not, maybe you took it to a less-expensive place to do the safety inspection for your tags. This is pefectly understandable. But for some reason, during what is supposed to be a safety inspection, they plugged in an OBD device to "scan for codes" and then hours later you have all these problems that you never had before.
I'm beginning to smell something unusual...... and it isn't coffee.
Obviously, if the items you mentioned all worked as you drove into the place for the inspection and they did not work as you drove out, that narrows the range of possibilities of what caused what. If that was indeed the case, it is almost certain that the place that did the inspection caused the problems.
(If you don't believe that places would do such things, get a gander at this investigative report: W5: Investigation of automotive garages | CTV News )

He said hours later, I don't know if he tried it right away and it worked, he didn't say but I don't think they would rig up something so elaborate on purpose just to get him to come back... That report was about them doing unnecessary work not breaking things to get the customer to return...
I'm not saying mechanics aren't scum because they are (specially the stealership) and I would say call them and ask exactly what they did.. They might reveal something they messed with you didn't realize. It's possible it was something benign or completely inadvertent they did and didn't realize. Then again it's 10 years old and there's the possibility that it just broke.
I had my old car at the stealership for a warranty repair and they called me and told me my ABS light was on and tried to blame me because I had some drink residue in the cup holder... I told them there was no ABS light on when I brought it to them and that they needed to find out what they screwed up.. Turns out they left a cable unplugged.
Did you check the fuses related to the CAN bus? The whole climate control system runs through that and if there is a failure of some sort there could potentially cause what you are describing... It sounds like the module is getting power because it lights up... Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery yet?
I don't think it's a bad idea to talk to the shop but I think going in there accusing them of breaking things straight off is a bad idea. I think it's going to be near impossible to prove they did something to the CC system and they will probably just charge you for a diagnostic and repair...
