Default 09 Outlander high idle and tranny clunk

Hi Everyone

I purchased an 09 Outlander V6 about a month ago and really like the vehicle. Overall the smooth engine, slick 4wd and well designed passenger space make a great buy.

I already have 4000KM on her in one month and noticed something right from the start. Whenever i start the vehicle in the morning (or after its been sitting for a few hours) the engine revs high like any car and settles down to 1250 rpm. It doesnt go down to 700 rpm or normal speed for atleast 10 minutes. Does not matter if its -5C or 20C. I have never had a car that idles this high when its warm and when i move the gear shift from park to reverse the transmission USUALLY makes a metallic clunk sound.
I thought this was being caused by the high engine revs and took it to the dealer the first week i had it. They said they couldnt duplicate it and the engine should idle that high even after 10 minutes of warming up. Something doesnt seem right here.

Has anyone else had this issue? It only makes the clunk gong into reverse as the revolutions dont seem to drop when selecting that gear. If you put it in drive the computer tells it to slow down before engaging.

Any idea's?

Thanks everyone!

Default Idle

Does anyones 07-09 Outlander V6 Idle over 1200RPM even when its warm outside? After driving for 20 minutes the normal idle is around 700rpm

Thanks

Bring your car to another dealer. It's possible you do have an issue and your dealer is not being responsive to your concerns.

Default normal.

It's completely normal. The high idle is to get the catalytic converter up to operational temps as soon as possible. In today's emission happy environment, the catalytic converter temperatures get first priority. If you get the engine up to temperature and turn it off and on again, it should settle into its low idle within a few seconds. Only when the cat temps are below catalyzing threshold temperatures does the engine run high again.

I'm getting that clunk as well. It seems to be there first thing in the morning and is very noticeable when shifting in "manual" mode. If I was in third and geared down to second, it will make one hell of a clunk and if I go to first, the same thing. It gets less noticeable when the engine is up to temp, but the clunk to first gear is still there.

I know not all cars are the same, but I really don't think this should be happening. It is somewhat frustrating. One dealership said it was normal - I call bulls**t on that one

Anyway, bottom line is I have clunks as well, so you aren't alone.
