2007 Outlander exhaust question
#11
So I did ask the shop, and yes, that is a 3rd cat converter; however, it is not connected to an O2 sensor, so it does not relay any info to the ECU and thus will not trip any check-engine light. They insisted it would pass an emissions test as well. They never asked me if it was OK with me to cut it out. Shady? A little bit, yes. But I'd still choose that option over replacing with the factory part that cost 4 times as much. The car is 11 years old.
If they're willing to GUARANTEE it will pass an emission test, I'd consider it. A cheap option doesn't help if you can't inspect your car. Either way, sounds super shady. I'd find a new mechanic.

Agreed, but they did guarantee it would pass. Where I live, all they do is hook up a machine to the data port. There's no visual inspection of anything. It's only an emissions test. If your car's CEL is not on, you're pretty much good to go.

I was looking around as my front flex pipe is going to need replacement before too long.

That carid.com exhaust part appears to be available again, as is a similar part on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-2009-M...1012:rk:4:pf:0

Looks like this is the same thing, for those here north of the wall https://www.ebay.ca/itm/163280218577
I see the link you posted includes this O ring and some bolts with springs... not sure which part is the better one to get...
