Is the 2011 outlander 2.2 diesel a SCR equipped vehicle ? What type of Particle filter system does it have ? is it a selfcleaning sytem with an onboard container for dispensing a cleaning liquid into diesel tank ?

It is the 2.2 HDI engine from Peugeot/Citroen (PSA Group), i.e. it uses FAP filter with special fluid injection. It provides increase of exhaust gases temperature to burn out the particles set in the filter.
Fluid is serviceable only via authorized service garage and it seems the access to container is somehow hidden.

Anyway, it would have been nice if Mitsu had some ***** and decided to offer that 2.2l engine here in USA. More horsepower than the current 2.4L gasoline engine, and way more torque than the V6 3.0L engine and it gets better MPG than both of them.

Problem with using wikipedia is that there is always a page that contradicts...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubi...ond_generation
and http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carrevi...outlander.html
and http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews...c-1005816.html
and http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar.../?section=good
;-)
PSA group are renowned for making strong deisel engines and have been shared by many other marques over the years.
I beleive that Ford use this particular one, as do Land Rover in the Freelander 2 (with their own tweeks of course).

It looks like for 2011 it will be available in two variations of 2.2L diesel engines, one the older sourced from PSA 154HP engine and the new Mitsu 175HP unit. From the reviews of the new 1.8L diesel variation of new Mitsu engine, it seems to be a real gem, pretty much right now it beats everything in its class and doesn't seem to suffer a big MPG hit when pushed hard.

I have just bought a 2011 diesel manual with the new engine, a VVT (MIVEC). The SST cars still have the Ford PSA unit, otherwise I would have gone for one of those. The new engine does have a closed loop DPF, which is cleaned by burn off using the injection of extra fuel. Some of this can end up in the oil, and there is an 'X' mark on the dipstick some way above the full mark - if the level reaches the X, the car has to have an oil change. Standard service interval is 9,000 miles (UK market), compared with 12,000 for the PSA engine, presumably at least partly because of the oil dilution.
The engine itself is very tractable and in my opinion significantly quieter than the PSA engine. I have done less than 1,000 miles so far but it seems to be bettering 40 miles per (UK) gallon, driven with reasonable regard for economy. In fact it is currently reading 52mpg after a 20 mile gentle run, though I believe the trip computer may be overreading by 10%-15% on the basis of the first couple of fills.
