Default 2011 Outlander V6 - crank no start / Fuse 21

Hi all,

Our 2011 died suddenly on us the other day while driving. It will crank but won't fire and start. Taken it to a local shop and they have found it keeps blowing fuse 21 - Ignition Coil fuse however they haven't located the source of the short yet.

Has anyone had this problem before or heard of it?

Thanks,

Ray.

I know this has been sitting here for a few years... but I also just came across this issue and thought I'd post my find. Fuse 21 is for the 12v supply voltage to the coils. I didnt have a spark tool or anyone else to crank for me. So what I did was replace the fuse. Unplugged the harness to the rear bank. Fuse still blew. So I unplugged the 3 on front bank and re plugged the back bank. Car ran. So a short in the front side. I then resistance checked the coils. Good was like 2.7M ohms if I remember. And I had one with 0.07 ohms. So it shorted internally. That would blow the fuse soon as the efi relay was turned on. So, no code could be caught cause it couldn't run to see a misfire. And there is no monitors for coil shorting(like some toyotas have). So without that coil. Car runs on 5 cylinder. Replaced the bad coil. Hope this helps someone later. Cheers

Default 2012 Fuse 21, coil coil

Same here. V6 - Metered from the load side of F21 to ground. 1.2 ohms. Unplugged the 4 easily accessible coils and reading went up to 6k ohms. Plugged them back in to isolate. Easy, except for the $265 towing fee.
