Default 2012 Outlander radio issue

I'm hoping that someone can help me troubleshoot this issue:

The display on the radio (stock) is constantly turning itself on and off. When it is off, I can't change channel except by using the steering wheel controls. It is not related to bumping etc, as it does it even in the ACC position.

I have tried removing the entire unit to check that all connections are tight, and could find nothing wrong. Put it all back together, and still the same problem.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

So you have two issues - Firstly, the radio turns on and off, by itself - Sorry, can't help there - but for the second issue below….

I'm not exactly sure what you mean - when it's off, it's off - so you wouldn't be able to change the channel. Lost me there.

As noted in the original post, it is the display that turns off and on. Not the radio itself.

It was not clear that the radio itself stays on.
Curious.

I had a similar issue with my RAV4. In summer, when the air conditioning was on, the radio would cut off when I hit a preset button. The problem was getting worse and worse. Finally, I just got a new head unit from Crutchfield.

Thankfully, I have not yet had any similar issues with my 2011 Outlander. The Mitsubishi stock radio sound is way better than the Toyota stock radio sound anyway.
