2012 Outlander Sport Oil filter size confusion?

First post here so her it goes.
2012 Outlander Sport 4cyl.
I go to change the oil and filter for the first time on this new vehicle, and the original filter is marked MD360935 which crosses over to a Bosch 3323
When I go to the Mitsu dealer to get a new oil filter he gives me a MZ690116 which is very different in apearance (short and fat compared to thin and tall which is on it now and the original filter) and crosses over to a Bosch 3312.
He says that sometimes the Manufacturer uses one size filter when new then changes to another size at the first oil change.
This sounds crazy.
Can someone help me out, have you heard of this before and most importantly, which size should I use?

I crossed referenced a few at Purolator:
MZ690116
Part Detail Popup
Specifications: L14459
Anti-Drain Back Valve Yes Height 2.95
O.D. 3.15 Relief Valve P.S.I. 12-15
Threads M20x1.5 Type of Filter Spin-on
MD360935
Part Detail Popup
Specifications: L14610
Anti-Drain Back Valve Yes Height 3.52
O.D. 2.69 Relief Valve P.S.I. 14-18
Threads M20x1.5 Type of Filter Spin-on
Using their application guide, it opts for the first one. Try looking at FRAM/Bosch/WIX/NAPA and see what they come up with.

odd, I looked up what a 2012 3.0 Outlander takes...it wants the short squat one. I looked up what my 2007 3.0L Outlander takes...it wants the taller one. Same engine. Looks like they changed it over in '09.

There is basically only 2 mitsu filter from the dealer these days, as listed by ccernst. (short one or tall one)
I believe you use which one that is more convenient to install (away from exhaust heat, etc)
They are both made by denso and basically just like the Toyota filters

I contacted Mitsubishi Motors North America and they stated that any of the filter numbers I had would work.
The numbers that I asked about were;
MD360935 (OEM original, Tall) Cross to Bosch 3323
MZ690072 (tall) Cross to Bosch 3323
MZ690116 (short) Cross to Bosch 3312
And they advised that I have a free oil change, So Ill bring it in and see what they feel like putting on that day.![Smile](https://mitsubishiforum.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
