I think those services are generally made to clear the "permanent" code stored after a deployment so one can re-use an SRS ecu even though it's not recommended.

What they won't do is physically check for an electronics problem in the unit and it's pretty unlikely the code has just gone bad...

I'd start with that contact cleaning first (on both the connector and ecu pins) and make sure it's all dry before plugging it back in.

Did you come to any conclusions on that passenger airbag problem?

Unfortunately you're looking at some pretty expensive parts either way.

You may need to trace the squib harness back to the ECU and check it's resistance/continuity while wiggling the cable/clockspring and see if you can get a failure in the harness somewhere too.

Might want to start checking with scrappers for some parts, you may be able to save a few bucks but it will probably be expensive either way...

The fact that it's intermittent makes it really hard to troubleshoot.

I think the occupant sensor is bad or needs re calibrated, if I push my hand into the seat the light will go off but im defiantly not pushing 60lbs worth or whatever its supposed to be. it actually started doing it after having a dog in the front seat.

when I cleared the clockspring I was wiggling it and did check harness to ecu as well, did clean contacts with crc even though they looked fine. the day i decided to take everything apart was because the warning light got worse. since it started about two weeks ago it would only tone maybe once or twice while driving an average of 20 minutes but on the last day it was doing it every 10-30 seconds.

let me double check on something real quick.. but there are 4 pins on the yellow airbag harness running through the clock spring are pins 1-2 and 3-4 suppose to be as one? making basically only 2 wires total? I figured it was supposed to be like that since it just splits to 2 squibs. what i mean is there was a solid connection between those 2 sets i mentioned.

scratch that... didnt know there was a spring inside the connector that automatically grounded those 2 wires together when disconnected.. guess im checking everything again

~60 lbs is the MAX for it to detect an infant and turn off the airbag.. It can start at little as 2 lbs... After 60 it turns back on assuming an adult is in the seat.

I've had a jacket and a binder on my passenger seat that turned off the airbag, though if there's no weight at all on it it will be off but the light won't come on.. It's set so low so if you do happen to have something living in that seat but very light you will be made aware the airbag will not fire.

I would not be surprised if there was a redundant connection to the squib and possibly a low/high force connector...

no what im saying is the light is on with nothing on the seat as if its already reading the min. weight but it only take the force of my hand to shut it off like the calibration is off and is already reading 30lbs or so in the seat from just the weight of the cushion. i dont know how the pressure sensors are mounted but maybe one of 4? is bent upwards making it seem like something is the the seat. i also heard there is a separate ecu just for that seat.

I'd expect there to be more than one connection in case one breaks in a collision.
I'd also expect one for high force (fast) inflation and one for low force (slow) inflation as they have been doing "smart" airbags for a long time now.
