Best Roof Rack Cross Bars
#35
Never heard of this happening with just the racks, but people have done this with bikes (often). The Outlander is not that high to begin with, so with the racks it only adds a few inches, nothing major. If there were clearance issues, taller cars would be bumping into things all the time.

"Best" is a matter of opinion and varies depending on your priorities. Go to Thule or Yakima and enter your car info and they'll tell you what they offer. If you go the ebay, knock-off route, you're on your own with the descriptions of the products to match your car. I personally would never go that route due to liability of things flying off, but some people have had positive experiences and swear by them. Name brand racks are quite expensive, so maybe it's worth it to try?

I would consider Yakima and Thule the same in quality and reputation. Both have lifetime warranties. Yakima is an American company if that matters to you. Thule has been around longer and seem to have more factory rack deals with more manufacturers. Again, I don't think any of these factors matter. I've used and continue to use both for various reasons. They just have a little different style, but they are both interchangeable for the most part. Good thing for consumers is that they have somewhat standardized mounts and have interchangeable accessories to a degree. Can't go wrong with either.
