Hello-


As of late, we've had a tremendous amount of slushy ice and rain. I've been driving in 4wd auto and lock mode lately and found it odd that I'm actually getting 1 to 1.5 miles per gallon BETTER than when I drive in 2wd. Now, I guess it could be weather, strange occurrences while driving, etc., but I drive a pretty identical route to work every day. I'm gonna keep up with this and see what happens as the hot Texas weather approaches...

Ive had it in 4wd auto and 4wd lock for the last 4 months straight. Deff got worse mpg. Better weather now with dry roads, went back to 2wd and just got 50 more miles out of the first tank...

 

Since your in slush and rain you are in 4wd taking it easy. Im sure when your in dry weather in 2wd you dont drive the same. With the slush your probly light on the gas.

 

You probably get a lot less power to the road in 2WD in those conditions than in 4WD. That would account for your over all increase in milage since your wheels are slipping less.

I totally agree. For me, living in Toronto, winter is full of slush and snow on the road. You will drive much more carefully in wet or slushy weather, therefore, you will go very easy on the gas.

On the other hand, in dry condition, it will tend to go harder on the pedals. You will see the differences if you were to drive 1 tank of gas in 2WD, and 1 tank in 4wd lock or auto, but both driven in dry condition. You will see the differences!

Been driving the car now - in 70 degree weather - and I'm still (according to the MPG estimator) getting slightly better gas when in 4wd auto mode. I guess I'm gonna have to test three tank fulls and see what is really happening. Thanks for all the info, guys/gals
