Default Brake pads

Does anyone know whether changing brake pads is a do-it-yourself job?

it is a super easy DIY. The only tricky part is to remember you may need to siphon some fluid out by the time you get to the third wheel.

jack the car up
take wheel off
take one caliper pin out, furthest away from brake line.
caliper will then rotate enough to get old pads out.
use channel-lock pliers to compress the piston back into the caliper (fluid will go back into the resivoir...watch the fluid level at this point)
pop new pads in
rotate caliper back down onto rotor
re-grease caliper pin with the $1 packet of caliper grease you bought earlier
tighten caliper pin...you may want to get some locktite. I've never needed to use locktite, but some use it.
throw your wheel back on.
start up the engine after you've done all 4 and pump the brakes to push the pistons back where they should be...and keep an eye on the fluid level while doing so.
you are done.

So I need to go procure a floor jack...

Of course I have done wheel rotations using my emergency jack, but I think it is getting tired.

I already have jack stands. Are there good spots for jack stands?

I actually did my rear pads last Sunday. Very easy.

I did the fronts back in December 2011. Very easy too. The fronts were worn out before 50K miles.

The rears still had some thickness in them at 56K miles.

it all depends on your ability to turn a wrench. it also depends on "whole brake system". if you mean just replacing the calipers, if you can turn a wrench and bleed a brake system....it is easy.
