Default Changing the 2WD-4WD Switch on Outlander

Has anyone ever changed the round switch that is used to change from 2WD-4WD? This is for a 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS V6, does it require and special tools or wiring? Is it just a pull out and replace job?

FYI, please find the attached relevant pages from the service manual. Before you change your existing unit you might want to test whether it needs to be replaced at all.

The reason I want to change it is because a piece cracked off the top of the drive selector **** it is purely cosmetic.
