FYI, I got the peice last night, andit worked out pretty good. I got a couple pictures I'll put up, but I got stuck coming into work today... I'll try tonight. I think the double din will work well.

Note... part of the reason it is so expensive is that it comes complete with the circuit board and buttons for the airbag warning lights and hazard flashers.

 

Here's some pics of the NAV peice with my single-din head unit.

DSCN2320 Shows how I used the upper set of holes on the OEM bracket, which lined up with the holes on my 1-din head unit. I just made a quick filler plate that I'll make look nicer some day.

DSCN2322 Shows it installed. Note that it sits at the bottom of the NAV hole - even though it's in the upper set of mounting holes. Note also that the filler plate it tilted backwards towards the slope of the dash. If it were perfectly parallel with the front of the head unit, the upper edge would extend forward outside of the NAV hole. A little annoying.

DSCN2323 Shows the OEM 6-disc changer. Note the 4 mounting screws that line up with those on the mount bracket. This box is true double din sized. However the CD slot is towards the top, and if you put this in with the NAV hole, it would not line up - only the upper CD slot half would show through, with a gap above like with my 1-din unit.

So... if you had a double-din, you might be able to shift it upward and only use 2 of the 4 mount bolts. Secondly, it may fit wierd due to the slope of the dash. Maybe you would need to drill your own holes in the mounting brackets to allow you to tilt it backwards. I'm not sure since I don't have a double-din to check. If you could get it to line up though, it would definately fit. It is a little wide though, and you may need some filler depending on the specific unit you got, and your personal preferences on how tight it had to look.

I'm happy for now. It's not awesome, but it's OK. I'll make it look a little neater, and maybe get a double-din when someone makes one I like.

only one question, did yuo have the nav in and you swapped it for a single or that is just the 6 disc? if it is the nav, why would you swap that out?

 

That's the 6-cd unit I removed. I don't know what I'd do if I had nav. I'd probably cry... since i'd have all that kEwL stuffI I wouldn't want to get rid of, but would want to upgrade the sound system... not sure how that would work.

 

Newbie so forgive the dated response but I thought I'd add a photo for reference.

I installed the Sherwood Dash kit for my wife's 2007 Outlander. I replaced her 2000 528 BMW with the Outlander, and she wanted the same "luxury" package. Anyway, she likes the way it looks. I still need to figure out how to remove the shift **** to install the last piece of trim... any help would be appreciated.

Looks like you did a good job on the install. Do you have any Grey Poupon?

Normally you just grab the shift **** and unscrew it like a big bottle cap... did you already try that? I haven't taken mine off before, so they could have done something funny.

 

Matti2d- Im sorry I cant offer any help on the shifter. Im curious as to how the install went and how hard it wasto get straight and how well it sticks. What supplier did you use and how much was it? Does it look better in person?

 

Stick on dahs kits are def. not my thing. Just looks like stickers placed randomly all over the dash.

 

The install took less than 2 hours. Part of the time was trying to get over the apprehension of mucking up the interior. I positioned all of the pieces first with some masking tape and then finally dove in. I found that you can remove a piece once (just once!) if misaligned, which helped on a few. It wasn't too bad to align. I purchased the kit on EBay, but it's manufactured from Sherwood dashkits. The installation video is on their website:

It does look better in person. Just one last piece which requires removal of the pesky shift ****...I tried unscrewing it but it feels like it might snap (set screw most likely).

I see Antlip's criticism that it's just "stickers"... but as long as the wife is happy, I'm happy!
