About to acquire a 2008 Outlander - diamond spec

I noted that the metal construction, under the driver seat itself, for the electrical seat mechansim is exposed on the side by the central console. Dealer said this was normal - I'm not so sure as I woudl expect it to be covered in plastic.

Can anybody confirm this please?

It is normal, I asked the dealer the same thing when I purchased mine from new.
