Default Engine noise...

Hi everyone, I just purchased a 09 outlander ES 4wd 2.4L I have had it for a week and I noticed that there is fairly loud lifter tick, even when warmed up. It has only 10500km on it and I just had the oil changed with fresh 5w20. I did not notice the ticking sound before the oil change but it could just be I wasn't listening for it.

Are all the 2.4 4B12 engines this noisy or should I be concerned? If so, how much lifter "tick" is normal. Thanks.

Probably fuel injectors, most likely normal.

Thanks, but this ticking is louder than fuel injectors and sounds like it's coming from the cam covers. If this sound is typical of these engines, then fine, but I have not heard other 4 cylinders sound like this.

What do everyone elses 2.4 sound like?

They are just going to tell me that it's normal, but I want to hear what owners have to say...

I have a 1997 Galant ES with 260,000 miles and while I'm no gearhead, I am a Honda to Mitsubishi convert..love my car. I have a persistent lifter tick that I'm told is due to oil port/passages in the lifter itself being too small and clogging up over time so the lifter can collapse...but that's supposed to only be an issue for 90-99 models...anyway, I tried Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Pennzoil Platinum and they all somehow 'let' the lifter(s) clack...but man, Valvoline SynTech 5W-30 with a NAPA Gold or WIX filter and she runs quiet most of the time.

you could try a thicker oil...which shouldn't hurt anything.
