tirerack says that a new lancer tire is 205/60/16, not 205/80/16...

also, would wrecking the gearbox by using two different diameter tires only apply to 4wd models, or 2wd models when the two odd sized tires are on the drive wheels (front)?

 

If it is for the 18" package I can recommend Michelin Primacy MXV4. I have a 2008 XLS with 35000 miles on it. It came with the Goodyear Eagle 2's on it and they only lasted until 34500. I had some alignment/suspension tread wear wear but overall the tire just didn't last and always had A LOT of road noise.

The Michelins are SUPER quiet, have a really nice ride and have a much better warranty. I really couldn't be happier with them because my vehicle is quiter and rides smoother than I EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE even when it was brand new. It is a total night and day difference.

 

my '09 SE with 18"s has the original Goodyears on it now, as it only has about 15k mi. on the clock. however, they already look about 60% worn, so I'm not expecting them to last much past 25k.

I should have said that the rim from the Lancer fits the Outlander. The 205/80/16 tyre is needed to keep the same diameter as the 235/70/16. The tyres must be the same diameter regardless of 2wd or 4wd as it affects the traction control and the stability control. apparently the computer does'nt like it.Especially if it is on the back.

 

I forgot to add that the local Mitsubishi dealer gave me the steel rim off a Lancer as a lot of people fit alloys and they scrap the steel rims.

235/65/16 tyres are a lot harder to find than 235/70/16 if you can find them at all.
