I totally agree ! If you bought a laptop, Ipod in 08, but it was built in 07, almost always, you can download updates from the manufacturer for free! such as drivers, firmware to bring your box up-to-date. Why wouldn’t the Nav system be the same?

Think antivirus signature files, now why does McAfee, Symantec, etc charge a subscription fee? Map data which Mitsubishi buys from Navteq cost money, that's why they charge customers for it.

This is such BS, map updates or any updates for any electronics (minus sirius) should be included as part of the warranty package.
I guess its time to write Mitsubishi and complain, I feel ripped off.
I feel for you, for I too have the MMCS, and I agree with you about updates being part of warranty, even at least a one time update for the 5 year new car warranty. And I did write to Mitsubishi about it and they refer me to my dealer with the part number for the map update disc. Bummer.

Why couldn't the Nav update be more like AVG and not McAfee,Symantec? Wishful thinking..Deep down, I agree with you, nothing is truely free
