Has anyone tried replacing existing MMC IDE 2.5'' disk with a SSD one?

Wouldn't it be better if after unlocking existing MMC IDE 2.5'' disk CLONE it to a bigger SSD?
Has anyone tried it?
I suppose that SSD are more tollerant to existing IDE drives in automobile use
Any opinion on this?

Thats an awsome idea.

It should work.

I don't think it will speed anything up, as everything is very fast as it is, and probably limited to processor power.

On the contrary, you will get a performance increase with the ssd. Remember that and ide/sata ide drive has a motor that is slow compared to an ssd. The rest of the NAV circuitry is also electronic and thus will be more insync with the data transfer using an ssd drive.

Caveat on the SSD. These also have a lifespan limit---probably around 100,000 or so read/writes. But yes you will definitely see significant improvements over an ordinary hdd.

I don't see how I could ge a significant improvment in performance. Everything is pretty much instant on mine. The only thing that takes a few seconds, and only a few seconds, is plotting a very long route.

Everything else is almost instant. POI searches, loading music, changing routes, etc.

well the best way to find out is to have someone try it out. But definitely the initial startup and response would be even more noticably quick based on the the data transfer access and speed difference between an ide and ssd drive.

Yeah, can't hurt to try. So who wants to donate an SSD to me?

Ok I will try it by myself and I willalso try to put the map update that has been posted a few days ago.
I will use this ssd (Transcend 64GB SSD (2.5", IDE, MLC, TS64GSSD25-M)
This is a cheap ssd although the MLC chip based SSD are not qualified for heavy (industrial) use. According to it's specs it sems to fail short to the temperature oparating limits starting from 0-70C while the HDD included in the MMCS seems to oparate from -20 to +70C. MLC SDD drives seem also to have a LIMITED READ/WRITE LIFE EXPECTANCY...
(Anyway the original disk will remain stored at home without ANY modifications...)

newegg.com sells quite a few ssd drives. Might find a deal on that site. I'm excited to hear your results of the test doc...please post.
