Heating-A/C Trick
The Outlander turns the A/C compressor on every time you turn the air-flow dial to the Defrost-Floor and Defrost positions. This can lead to excessive fuel consumption. Yes, it is good to have the compressor run sometimes to clear excessive moisture from the windshield, but in very cold climates, this is not always a good thing.
What you want to do is to turn the dial to 1 click before the Defrost-Floor position. If you have gone too far, you will hear the compressor come on, just turn it back 1 click. You will still get very good flow to both the floor and windshield and the a/c compressor will not turn on.
