Default HELP! Gen 2 Mitsubishi Outlander (TSB) Technical Service Bulletins

Hi all,

BACKGROUND: I purchased a 2007 Mitsu Outlander XLS V6 4WD about 3 months ago from a Mitsu dealership in Milwaukee. Although it only had 26,000 miles on it when I purchased it (current miles: 30,000), it did not come with the remaining factory warranty due to the age of the vehicle (100k/10year is not transferable).

PROBLEMS: Since I purchased it, I have noticed two issues that are driving me crazy.

1. The heater is terrible. Hot/warm air only blows when the car is moving, but it is cold when the car is stopped - even at a stop light when the engine has been running for a long time. Coolant level is good. I did some research and it turns out that this was a known issue for the 07/08 models and there was a TSB released. 2. I am getting a popping/clicking sound from the front end when I make a sharp turn or hit a small bump. After some research, it seems that there is an issue with the front wheel bearings in many of the 2007 models. Mine was built in November of 2006, so it is a very early 2007 model. Mitsu issued a TSB on the issue and it seems this was a common repair. Here are two links:

QUESTION: Has anyone had either of these two issues corrected? Did you have to pay? Do you have any advise on getting these issues resolved without having to pay for them? It seems that the dealer should have addressed these known issues prior to the sale. The service tech says I have to pay, but that does not seem right. It would really suck to have to pay, since it was under warranty just four months ago ... just before the original owner traded it in.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

I couldn't imagine them charging that much to update the ECM with new software... The wheel bearings will probably cost a few bucks...

You could try calling corp and fighting with them but if you talked to a stealership and they said you'd have to pay you may be up the creek...

The TSB for the bearing say it's not a structural thing so it sounds like it's most likely just an annoyance issue than a danger of the bearings failing... May just be a case of turning up the radio :P

If you call corp and demand managers and threaten to never buy and pass on bad things about Mitsu they might do the repairs for you but that doesn't always work.

I contacted the GM at the Mitsu dealership today and he sounded like he might go to bat for me. I guess they can lean on Mitsu a bit if they want to help you, so I guess it is good to stay polite and on their good side. I will post an update once they look it over.
