Help re: self install of glass
Hey All,
I am new here. Thanks in advance for the help. Just moved to Boston recently and just had my car broken in to.
07 Outlander passenger side front glass broken and GPS gone. I am trying to save money and considering trying to install it myself.
1) Needing help on getting the door panel off. Seems to only be two screws I can see. Is that it and it just pops off?
2) How hard is it to install glass? My background is my dad was a handyman so growing up a did a lot of work with him. As far as cars, I do my own oil changes, brake pad changes, and did a ton of stereo/speaker installs during high school.
3) If I were to do it myself, where do I buy the glass? (As mentioned, I live in Boston MA)
4) If answer to #2 is not too hard, how much do I actually end of saving? ie, seems from my calculation to be $50-$100.
5) Any general tips on any of this are welcomed!
Thanks you all!
Will

Very easy to remove glass, door panel has the 2 screws and the rest polls off, it doesn't lift over the window rail like older models but simply pushes up against it..
Once removed connect window switch a d wind window till you see the 2 bolts on the glass near the bottom of door.
There's a special access hole for the 1 bolt to get to.
Then once unscrewed, lower frame all the way and slide window or what's left up and angled out to bypass rubber runners and apply reverse to install

Thanks for the reply. Got it all out and vacuumed the glass (car was broken in to).
All I have left is two white aligator type clips attached with bolts. Look like they held the bottom of the glass.
How to I get these on to the new glass? It seems like it would be hard to get on as they seem to go on by just pressure/sliding on??? How to I get them in the right spot?
Thanks!

unbolt the bolts from the plastic c clips and then the new window should have the c clips on it already, then just slide the new window in through the top of the sill where your window sill is feeding the front of the window first keeping it aligned in the front runner, and keep it on a steep angle untilyou get the base in too then slowly work it level then align the bolt holes and voila
All went great. Got a new piece of glass with clips already on (I am told they are glued on by the factory) for $125. Took me like 30 min total to install. Would recommend, was very easy.
Thanks!
Thanks!
