Default Hesitant at 2500rpm

Firstly hi to everyone, new Outlander owner from Nottingham. I have just picked up a 2008 2.2 Diamond Outlander, knew straight away that it was the right car. I have a a slight query though, if I drive at a continuous speed at around 2500rpm then it starts to misfire, like a slight fuel leak. If I drop a gear for around 10 seconds and hold it at higher revs this seems to clear it and all is well for a while again. Anyone got any ideas what could be causing it, there is no EML light or any other faults that show up.

Thanks in advance
