The cloth seats are reasonably comfortable for short trips. I would not like to attempt driving from NJ to Florida on them. The power seats allow you to adjust the angle of the bottom as well as the height and are much more comfortable on long drives. (I used the NJ to Florida example because I take the family to Disney World every few years.)

I am going to find a way to fit Recaro driving seats into my LS. A potential solution is to use Lancer Evo seats with side airbags to retain that factory safety feature. Regular Recaros do not have the side airbag.

Someone mentioned the sme thing, that the cloth seats weren't very comfortable on a long trip. What seems to be the issue, too hard ? Does size make a difference. The person I talked to looked like Lumberjack. We are both in the 5 - 5 7" class.

every Christmas, my wife and I go from Kansas City, MO to about Cleveland, OH...just under 800 miles each way. With the dog it is about a 15-16hr drive if we do it all at once. We are pretty stiff, afterwards, but compared to our Ranger and our old Grand Am....the seats in the Outlander are better. This last time we stopped in IL for a night to break it up. I'm 5'10 @ 220lbs. My wife is bigger than me. At the end, getting irritated at the other is more of a problem than the seats!

I do 3 hour ride from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando every once in a while.

These seats aren't the most comfortable I have seen, but they are OK.

I think size will make a difference. Age probably matters too. If you are younger than 40, you will probably have more tolerance for seats that are not as supportive or adjustable as we prefer. If you weigh less than us, that will also make a difference. I think the OEM seats are too soft for long rides. They are fine for normal family use around town.

My wife and I are 47 and 53 respectively. I am 5'11" and 250 lb. My wife is 5'7" and 135 lb. She swims regularly and is in good physical condition. She does not like the fact that the seat bottom angle cannot be adjusted. This does not matter much for typical short suburban driving. It does make a significant difference to her comfort on drives of 1 hour or more. The XLS we test drove had power leather seats with this adjustment and she preferred them. The LS we bought was $5000 cheaper and I figure I can put some good aftermarket seats in for a lot less than that.

Because I am overweight and out of shape, I have lower back problems and I have trouble with most OEM seats on drives of 1 hour or more. Recaro seats have really good ergonomic design and I usually find a way to install them in my cars. I look for used ones on Ebay. Seat mounts for the Outlander are not available from Recaro so I will have to fabricate my own. I put used Recaro seats off Ebay in my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder and they made a big difference in long distance driving comfort. We upgraded to the Outlander because it has much better interior space, handling, and gas mileage.

This would probably be the only complaint I have about the Outlander. I've had mine for 2 1/2 years and put over 63000 miles on it and the seats do get uncomfortable after a lot of seat time

I did 9 hours from Vancouver to Jasper and 11 hours from Banff to Vancouver and the only uncomfortable thing was holding my leg in the same position...although that had nothing to do with the seat. So they are extremely comfortable on long trips....I only stopped about 2 or 3 times for a few mins.
