j-01 is the MMCS version number. Found on the bottom right of the faceplate under the joystick.
I think after unlocking the HDD, see page 1 of this thread, there will be several partitions on the disk. One will be for screen data.
Hopefully just the files on the CD are enough and you don't need a bootable CD or anything else fancy.
I going to attempt this weekend as we'll if I get time.

Hey if you get this working, I'm in Auckland as well, would really appreciate if you could help me out and get it working for me, thing is I don't have all the pieces to get it working my end cable and hardware wise.

Cheers

I still need to do my homework by reading through this thread properly before I attempt any upgrade. Last thing I want is to stuff up the system and can't get back to start.

First thing is to get it into English then I'll look at GPS maps and then TV. If I can get all of this working for NZ I'd be very happy.

Jim

I wasn't able to confirm if MMCS now sold in NZ is HDD type (like J-01) or new SD card based type (W-11).

If it is old one all you need to find the owner willing to share his maps.
Maps are located on a 1st partition of HDD. Just copy those files to your J-01 HDD.

Looks like V20 maps for Australia MMCS (HDD-less) should contain NZ maps as well.

I have sent over a J-01 head unit to Vadimus. Should be there next week.
Ive tried a few times with the conversion but not had much luck, I'm going to have another try tonight or tomorrow

Was able to download V18 and V19 maps. NZ is there, present in the list of countries. Besides, I've searched couple of NZ cities like Kurow - they are listed so now we are 100% sure NZ maps exist.
Whether will be able to make them work on J-01 - who knows?
Waiting for my J-01 to arrive.

BTW V18 is 2011, V19 is 2012.

That news is very enouraging. Thanks for keeping us posted on results. This has been the first positive news on GPS conversion I've read.

My son has taken the Pajero for a drive this weekend so will try English upload next week.
